Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini Phone: Upgrade to Android 6.0.1

Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini Phone: Upgrade to Android 6.0.1. After a long wait, the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update for the Galaxy S3 Mini has arrived. However, it’s important to note that this is a custom ROM, not the official firmware. While previous custom ROMs for the S3 Mini were quickly released based on Android KitKat and Lollipop, the Marshmallow update took longer to become available. The new Marshmallow firmware for the S3 Mini is built on the CyanogenMod 13 custom ROM.

The CyanogenMod 13 Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow ROM has been adapted for the S3 Mini from a custom ROM originally made for the Galaxy Ace 2. The ROM has successfully incorporated important features such as WiFi, Bluetooth, RIL, Camera, and Audio/Video, all functioning properly. While there may be a few bugs in the ROM and some features may not work, it is a remarkable advantage to have Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow on an older and less powerful device like the S3 Mini. Therefore, any minor issues should be seen as insignificant inconveniences.

We understand that you’re here to find a way to update your phone with the latest software. Without wasting any more time, let’s get straight to the point. In this post, you will discover a step-by-step guide on how to install Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow on your Galaxy S3 Mini I8190 using the CyanogenMod 13 custom ROM. First, we will cover some initial preparations and precautions, and then we will proceed with flashing the ROM immediately.

Initial Preparations

  1. This ROM is specifically for Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini GT-I8190. Please ensure that you check your device’s model in Settings > About Device > Model and refrain from using it on any other device.
  2. To ensure compatibility, your device should have a custom recovery installed. Follow our comprehensive guide to install TWRP 2.8 recovery on your Mini S3 if you don’t already have it.
  3. It is highly recommended to have your device’s battery charged to at least 60% to avoid any power issues during the flashing process.
  4. It is highly recommended to back up your important media content, contacts, call logs, and messages. This will come in handy in case of any mishaps or the need to reset your phone.
  5. If your device is already rooted, utilize Titanium Backup to backup all your critical apps and system data.
  6. Also if you are using a custom recovery, it is recommended that you backup your current system using that first. [Just for the sake of safety]. Here’s our full Nandroid Backup guide.
  7. During the installation process of this ROM, it is necessary to perform Data Wipes. Therefore, it is essential to ensure that you have backed up all the mentioned data beforehand.
  8. Before flashing this ROM, it is advised to create an EFS backup of your phone.
  9. To successfully flash this ROM, it is important to have sufficient confidence.
  10. Great! Proceed with flashing the custom firmware and make sure to follow this guide precisely.
