A Comprehensive Guide Using Xperifirm for Firmware Downloader of Sony Xperia Firmware FILESETs

    1. Before proceeding, it’s crucial to identify the latest firmware available for your device. To do so, check Sony’s official site for the latest build number.
    2. Download XperiFirm and extract it onto your system.
    3. Launch the XperiFirm application file with a black favicon.
    4. Once you open XperiFirm, a list of devices will appear.
    5. Click on the corresponding model number to select your device, and be cautious in your selection.
    6. Upon selecting your device, the firmware and its relevant information will appear in the subsequent boxes.
    7. The tabs will be categorized as follows:

Creating FTF Files Using Flashtool – Compatible with Android Nougat and Oreo

Xperifirm no longer generates FILESETs. Instead, it downloads bundles that are extracted into the chosen folder. To generate an FTF file, push the firmware downloader files into Flashtool. The process is explained below.

  1. Once you have downloaded the firmware files, launch the Sony Mobile Flasher Flashtool.
  2. Within Flashtool, navigate to Tools > Bundles > Bundler.
  3. When in Bundler, choose the folder where you saved the downloaded firmware.
  4. In Sony Flashtool, the firmware folder files will appear on the left side. Select all files except “.ta” files (e.g., sim lock.ta, fota-reset.ta, cust-reset.ta) and ignore the fwinfo.xml file if present.
  5. Tap on “Create” to initiate the creation of the FTF file.
  6. Generating the FTF file may take some time. Once completed, find the FTF file under “Flashtool > Firmware folder.” The FTF file can also be shared with others at this point.

Creating FTF Files Using Sony Flashtool – A Step-by-Step Guide  

  1. First, download and install Sony Flashtool on your computer.
  2. Open Sony Flashtool now.
  3. Within Flashtool, go to Tools > Bundles > FILESET Decrypt.
  4. A small window will open up. Now, in the source, choose the folder where you saved the downloaded FILESETs using XperiFirm.
  5. After selecting the source folder, the FILESETs will be listed in the “Available” box, and there should be 4 or 5 FILESETs.
  6. Select all of the file sets and move them to the “Files To Convert” box.
  7. Click on “Convert” now to start the conversion process.
  8. The conversion process may take anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes.
  9. After FILESET decryption is complete, a new window called “Bundler” will appear, allowing you to create the FTF file.
  10. If the window doesn’t open or you close it accidentally, go to Flashtool > Tools > Bundles > Create and select the source folder with the downloaded and decrypted FILESETs.
  11. Select your device from the device selector and enter the firmware region/operator and build number.
  12. Move all of the files to Firmware Content, excluding .ta files and fwinfo.xml files.
  13. Click on Create at this point.
  14. Now, sit back and wait for the FTF creation process to finish.
  15. After completing the process, you can locate your FTF file in the following directory: installation directory > Flashtool > Firmware.
