The Samsung Galaxy S6 And S6 Edge SM-G920F Android 6.0 Marshmallow

The Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge are receiving an official update to Android 6.0 Marshmallow.  This firmware is still in beta condition but if you want to enjoy it early, we have a way that you can do so.

 

Since this firmware is in its beta stage there are some bugs and performance issues, but further updates are sure to be released to fix these.  You can either wait for the official stable firmware to be released or just enjoy this beta version.  If you find you don’t like it you can switch back to an older version.

Follow along with our guide and update a Galaxy S6 Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge SM-G920F to Android 6.0 Marshmallow official firmware.

Prepare your device

  1. This guide is only for the Galaxy S6 Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge SM-G920F. Don’t use it with other devices as it could brick the device. Check device model number by going to Settings> More/General> About Device.  You can also go to Settings> About Device.
  2. Charge battery of device to at least over 60 percent to prevent it from running out of power before ROM is flashed.
  3. Have an OEM data cable that you can use to connect your device to your PC.
  4. Back up important contacts, SMS messages and call logs.
  5. Back up important media files by copying them to a PC or laptop.
  6. Make a backup of your EFS.
  7. Install Samsung USB drivers.
  8. Turn off you Samsung Kies, firewall and antivirus programs first as they will interfere with Odin
  9. Flash TWRP 3.0 Recovery: Download

 

Note: The methods needed to flash custom recoveries, roms and to root your phone can result in bricking your device.  Rooting your device will also void the warranty and it will no longer be eligible for free device services from manufacturers or warranty providers.  Be responsible and keep these in mind before you decide to proceed on your own responsibility.  In case a mishap occurs, we or the device manufacturers should never be held responsible.

  • Super Su.Zip: Link

Flash 5.1.1 Bootloader:

  1. Open Odin3.
  2. Put device into download mode by turning it off and waiting for 10 seconds. Turn it back on by pressing and holding the volume down, home and power button simultaneously, When you see a warning, press volume up button to continue.
  3. Connect device to PC.
  4. When Odin detects the phone, ID:COM box will turn blue.
  5. If you have Odin 3.09 or 3.10.6 hit BL tab.
  6. Select 5.1.1 Bootloader file and Click Start

 

Flash TWRP 3.0 and Firmware

  1. Hit the APtab in Oding.
  2. Select TWRP Recovery File then click Start
  3. Reboot device and Transfer Marshmallow.zip file to root of SD card.
  4. After recovery installation, turn off your device device and reboot into Recovery Mode.
  5. In TWRP, tap Install > Marshmallow.zip File and swipe Slider to start installation.

Flash 6.0.1 Bootloader

  1. Open Odin
  2. Put device into download mode by turning it off and waiting for 10 seconds. Turn it back on by pressing and holding the volume down, home and power button simultaneously, When you see a warning, press volume up button to continue.
  3. Connect device to P
  4. When Odin detects the phone, ID:COM box will turn blue.
  5. If you have Odin 3.09 or 3.10.6 hit BL tab.
  6. Select 6.0.1 Bootloader file and Click Start

Reboot your device and, check the firmware version by going to Settings About device to confirm the update.
