Evaluating The The Sony Xperia Z4

Those who have been holding their breath waiting for Sony to release their latest flagship can take a breath again as Sony has officially announced the Xperia Z4.

On their Japanese website Sony has revealed the Xperia Z4, which includes some unexpected specs to make this device a solid update to the line.

Sony itself goes on at great length to compare the Xperia Z4 and its predecessor, the Xperia Z3.  Similarities do abound but we’ve found that the Xperia Z4 is indeed a worthy update.

Some notable things about the Sony Xperia Z4 are:

1. The Sony Xperia Z4 has a metal frame and is thinner and lighter then the Xperia Z3, measuring 6.9 mm thick.
2. The Sony Xperia Z4’s display is 5.2-inches and uses a full HD LCD panel.
3. The processor of the Sony Xperia Z4 is a Snapdragon 810 SoC with a 64-bit octo-core chipset. This uses about 3 GB of ram.
4.  Sony Xperia Z4 comes with internal storage of 32GB but this can be expanded via microSD to 128GB.
5. The rear camera of the Sony Xperia Z4 is a 20.7MP Exmore RS shooter. This camera is capable of ISO 12800 and it’s Boinz image processor offers camera shake correction
6.  front camera of the Sony Xperia Z4 is a 5.1MP that has full HD video capture.
7.  Sony Xperia Z4 has video capture up to 4K for around 1080p at 60fps.
8.  Sony Xperia Z4 is dust and water resistant. It has a IP6 dust resistance certification and IPX5/IPX8 water certification.
9. There are four colors available for the Sony Xperia Z4. These are white and black as well as copper and aqua green.

10. Sony Xperia Z4 runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop.
11. Sony Xperia Z4 offers support for Sony’s LDAC Bluetooth protocol which provides high-quality audio.
12. Sony Xperia Z4 has a 2,930 mAh battery which Sony claims can give up to 17 hours of talk time over a 3G connection.

From what we can understand from the Japanese website, Sony should be providing more details on the Xperia Z4 – including price and availability rates, on April 22.  On this date, the Xperia Z4 will be on display at the Sony showroom in Ginza, Tokyo.
