How To: Root And Install TWRP Recovery After Updating A Galaxy S6 Edge To Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow

Root And Install TWRP Recovery

Samsung has released an official update for Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow for their Galaxy S6 Edge.  If you have installed this update on your device, you may have noticed that if you had root access, it got wiped.

If you want to regain root access, or gain it for the first time on a Galaxy S6 Edge running Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, we have a way you can do so – two ways actually.

We use custom kernel, SpaceX to root the device.  We will also flash a TWRP 3.0 custom recovery on the device.  Follow along.

Prepare your phone

  1. The guide will only work with the following variants of the Samsung Galaxy Edge:
    • SM-G925F
    • SM-G925S
    • SM-G925L
    • SM-G925K

To make sure your device is one of these variants, check the model number.  Model number can be found in Settings> General/more> About Device.  If you try to use this guide with another device it could result in bricking the device.

  1. Charge the battery to 50 percent to prevent you from running out of power before the process is done.
  2. Have an OEM data cable that you can use to connect your device to your PC.
  3. Back up all your important contacts, SMS messages and call logs. Back up important media content by copying it to a PC.
  4. Disable any antivirus or firewall programs you have on your PC first. Also, close or uninstall Samsung Kies if you have it on your device.

Note: The methods needed to flash custom recoveries, roms and to root your phone can result in bricking your device.  Rooting your device will also void the warranty and it will no longer be eligible for free device services from manufacturers or warranty providers.  Be responsible and keep these in mind before you decide to proceed on your own responsibility.  In case a mishap occurs, we or the device manufacturers should never be held responsible.
