iPhone 8 Price and Overview: Apple is celebrating a decade of producing iPhones in 2017 and is gearing up for a “radical redesign” to mark the occasion. Despite the recent launch of the iPhone 7, rumors have already surfaced about the next iPhone, which is reportedly under development in Apple’s Israeli office. Word Association Game
The next iPhone could be named iPhone 8 instead of 7s as it is expected to come with radical changes in design and features. Reports suggest it may also be called iPhone Pro or The iPhone. Three variants are currently being developed: iPhone 8, 8S, and a premium version. The final name is yet to be confirmed.
Impressive Screen
Reports suggest that Apple will equip the next iPhone with an OLED display, as they have contracted Samsung, Sharp, and AU Optronics to provide these panels. Previously, Japan Display provided the iPhone’s display panels, but they do not have the technology for OLED development.
OLED displays offer significant benefits over traditional LED displays. They do not need a backlight like LCDs, making them more energy-efficient with lower power consumption. This helps maximize battery life which is a major concern for consumers. OLED displays also provide outstanding image quality with higher contrast ratios.
The use of flexible OLED displays confirms rumors of Apple introducing an edge-to-edge curved display on the iPhone 8. Reports suggest that the company is also trying to increase the screen-to-body ratio for a full-screen display.
According to a recent report by Forbes, Apple will release three iPhones in 2017. One of them, the iPhone Pro, is expected to have an OLED display with a 5.5″ or 5.8″ edge-to-edge curved display. The other two will come in 4.7″ and 5.5″ sizes respectively, and will use TFT-LCD. The reason for not using OLED displays for all models is two-fold: 1) suppliers cannot produce enough panels and 2) creating uniqueness and differentiation between the three models.
Apple is benefitting from Samsung’s Note 7 recall and plans to capitalize on it by launching the high-end iPhone Pro with an OLED display and full-screen curved display, aiming to attract phablet users. Their history of producing impeccable products works in their favor and they plan to reinforce this with their 10th anniversary.
Farewell to Home Button
The edge-to-edge full-screen curved display in the next iPhone means the Home Button will be removed. Since the click option was removed in iPhone 7, this move makes sense. Mark Gurman has made this claim.

The Touch ID sensor, as well as the front-facing camera and speaker, are expected to be integrated into the display where the Home button used to be. High-performance CPU
The iPhone 8 will come with TSMC’s A11 chipset produced using the 10 nm FinFET process, a sensible choice given that Samsung’s Galaxy S8 uses the same process with the Exynos 8895 and Snapdragon 830 chipset. The A11 chipset will reduce power consumption and increase processing speed by 20%.
Inductive Charging
Apple is rumored to be developing long-range wireless charging technology, which would eliminate the need for a physical connection to charge the device. This may seem far-fetched, but Apple has been hiring experts to work on this project. If successful, this would be a significant achievement. Apple’s partner, Foxconn, is said to be testing this technology, but it is still unclear whether it will be included in the next iPhone or launched later. Dual-Lens Camera
Apple’s use of the dual-lens camera in the iPhone 7 Plus was a hit. It involves the use of two lenses for improved image processing and better focus. Apple will bring back this feature in the 5.5-inch iPhone 8 and the iPhone Pro, but the standard camera will be used in the third variant similar to the iPhone 7.
Eye Recognition
The upcoming iPhone is rumored to have advanced biometric features, including an iris scanner for increased security. Xinetic is providing the iris scanning chips, but it is uncertain if the feature will be ready for use in the device.
