Android Lollipop And Enable WiFi Tethering On A AT&T Galaxy S4 Active I537

Samsung’s Galaxy S4 Active is a waterproof and dust resistant version of their original Galaxy.  In the US, the device comes from AT&T and has the model number SGH-I537.

 

The Galaxy S4 Active is getting an update to Android 5.0.1 Lollipop.  In this guide we are going to show you how you two different methods you can use to update a Galaxy S4 Active SGH I537 to Android 5.0.1 Lollipop I537UCUCOC6 firmware.  We are also going to show you how you can root it after updating and how to enable WiFi tethering.

Prepare your phone:

  1. This guide should only be used with the AT&T Galaxy S4 Active SGH I537
  2. Charge the device so the battery has 50 percent of its power. This is to make sure that you don’t run out of power before flashing ends.
  3. Back up all of your important SMS messages, call logs and contacts as well as any important media content.
  4. Back up the EFS partition of your device.
  5. If you have a custom recovery installed, create a Nandroid backup.

Note: The methods needed to flash custom recoveries, roms and to root your phone can result in bricking your device.  Rooting your device will also void the warranty and it will no longer be eligible for free device services from manufacturers or warranty providers.  Be responsible and keep these in mind before you decide to proceed on your own responsibility.  In case a mishap occurs, we or the device manufacturers should never be held responsible.

Install Android 5.0.1 Lollipop Stock On Your Galaxy S4 Active I537

Note: To use this method you need to be running stock Android 4.4.2 KitKat based on (NH3) build.  If you are running a newer firmware than NH3, use another method.  If your device is running an older build number, update it to NH3 firmware before continuing.

Download:

SGH-I537UCUCNE3_v4.4.2_ATT_ALL.zip

Update to NE3/NH3 Firmware:

  1. You will need to first flash NE3 firmware.
  2. Download  zip
  3. Unzip the downloaded file. Look for file 2400258.cfg and rename it update.zip.
  4. Copy update.zip to your external SD card.
  5. Boot your phone into stock recovery. First, turn it off.  Then, turn it back on by pressing volume up, home and power buttons simultaneously.  Keep these three buttons pressed down until the phone turns on.
  6. Use the volume up and down keys to navigate. Go to and select the option to apply update from external storage.  Select update.zip file.  Select yes.  This should begin flashing.
  7. When NE3 has been flashed, download and unzip zip. Look for the file 2400258.cfg and rename it update.zip.
  8. Copy update.zip to your external SD card.
  9. Boot device in recovery mode. Use the same sequence of actions you used in step 5.
  10. Flash the file using the same sequence of actions you used in step 6.

 

Install Android 5.0.1 Lollipop On Your AT&T S4 Active With Root

Note: This method can be used with whatever your current firmware is.

 

Note 2: The file we will be using here is pre-rooted.  It will only work with a device that has root access.  Root your device before using this method.

 

Install FlashFire app

  1. Go to Google+ and join Android-FlashFire communityon Google+.
  2. Open theFlashFire Google Play Store link 
  3. Choose “Become a beta tester”.
  4. You will be taken to the installation page. Follow the instructions to install the app.

Note: You can also use the FlashFire APK to get this on your device.

Download:

  1. Firmware file: zip.

Install:

  1. Copy the file you downloaded in step 5 to your SD card.
  2. Open FlashFire App.
  3. On the terms and conditions, tap agree
  4. Allow root privileges for the app.
  5. On the lower right corner of the app, tap the + button. This will bring the actions menu up.
  6. Tap Flash OTA or Zip and select the file you placed in your SD card in step 6.
  7. Make sure you leave the Auto-mount options unchecked.
  8. Press the tick mark that you can find on the top-right corner.
  9. Leave everything else as is.
  10. Tap the lightening button that you will find in the apps lower-left corner.
  11. Wait for around 10-15 minutes.
  12. When the process ends your device should automatically reboot.

Enable WiFi Tethering

Download:

I537_OC6_TetherAddOn.zip

 

  1. Copy the downloaded file to your SD card.
  2. Open FlashFire App.
  3. Tap the tick mark that you will find on the lower-right corner.
  4. Select the Flash OTA or Zip option.
  5. Select the file you downloaded and copied onto your SD card.
  6. Leave everything else as is and tap the lightening button.
  7. Wait for the file to flash. When it is through, the phone should automatically reboot.
