Update Xperia S LT26i To Android 5.0.2

Sony Xperia S’s last official update was to Android Jelly Bean, but there now a unofficial build of CyanogenMod 12 that can equip it with Android 5.0.2 Lollipop.  This custom ROM can be used with Sony Xperia S LT26i.

If you want to install Android 5.0.2 in your Xperia S, try following our how-to.

First, make sure that you have done the following:

  • Unlocked the Bootloader.
  • Installed USB drivers.
  • Connected the phone to the PC with a USB cable.
  • Installed ADB and Fastboot Drivers or Mac ADB And Fastboot Drivers.
  • Charged your phone to up to 50 percent.
  • Backed up all contacts and messages as well as call logs.
  • Had a Nandroid Backup made is custom recovery is installed.
  • Copy all media files and everything in your phones internal memory to a PC to be saved.
  • Note: The methods needed to flash custom recoveries, roms and to root your phone can result in bricking your device. Rooting your device will also void the warranty and it will no longer be eligible for free device services from manufacturers or warranty providers. Be responsible and keep these in mind before you decide to proceed on your own responsibility. In case a mishap occurs, we or the device manufacturers should never be held responsible.

Secondly, you will need to download the following:

  1. uCyan CM12 Custom ROM for Xperia S LT26i (Latest version)
  2. TWRP Custom Recovery (Rename this to recovery.elf)
  3. Android 5.0 Lollipop Gapps

Finally, these are the steps you need to take to install CM 12

  1. Turn the phone off and wait 5 seconds
  2. While holding the volume up button, connect the phone to the PC.
  3. The LED should be blue, indicating the phone is currently on fastboot mode.
  1. Copy recovery.elf to either the Fastboot folder or Minimal ADB and Fastboot installation folder.
  2. Open folder then, while holding the shift button on the keyboard, right-click on mouse.
  3. Click Open Command Window Here.
  4. Type fastboot devices then press Enter.
  5. You should only see one fastboot connected device after doing this. If more than one device is shown, disconnect them and close any Android Emulator. You should also make sure that if you have PC Companion installed, it is disabled.
  6. Type fastboot flash boot recovery.elf then press Enter.
  7. TWRP custom recovery should flash on your phone.
  8. Type fastboot reboot then press Enter.
  9. Extract downloaded custom ROM zip. Copy boot.img to the Fastboot folder or the Minimal ADB and Fastboot installation folder.
  10. Copy ROM zip to the phone’s internal storage.
  11. Re-enter phone to fastboot mode.
  12. Type fastboot flash boot boot.img then press Enter.
  13. Flashing should be finished in a few minutes.
  14. Type fastboot reboot then press Enter.
  15. As the phone is booting up, continuously press the Volume up/down button so you can enter recovery mode.
  16. From recovery mode, select Install and go to the folder with ROM zip.
  17. Install ROM zip
  18. Reboot phone.
  19. Perform a factory reset and wipe Dalvik cache after ROM is installed.
  20. In five minutes, the phone should boot to home screen.
  21. Copy downloaded Gapps zip file to the phone. Flash the same way as ROM to install Google Applications.

There you have it; you’ve installed Android 5.0.2 to your Xperia S
