• Samsung has changed the build of the Galaxy Note 3 just a little bit. They’ve used faux leather patterned plastic which makes the Galaxy Note 3 seem just a little more durable and a little more premium.
• The faux leather feels soft and is easy to grip.
• The Note 3 actually weighs a little less than the Note 2. The Note 3 is 168 grams, which makes it 15 grams lighter than the Note 2. The Note 3 is also about 1 mm narrower than the Note 2.

• The Note 2 is mostly made of glossy, hard plastic.
• Some people feel that plastic smartphones are old and even feel cheap compared to smartphones made of metal or glass.
• While this may be true, the plastic used by Samsung has the advantage of being quite durable.

Verdict:

The faux leather plastic used in the Note 3 is an improvement over the hard, glossy plastic of the Note 2. The Note 3 also feels and looks like the more durable device.

Display Galaxy Note 3 vs Galaxy Note 2

• The display of the Galaxy Note 3 is a 5.7-inch screen that uses Super AMOLED technology.
• The Galaxy Note 3’s display has a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 and a pixel density of 386 pixels per inch.
• This is a beautiful screen with great viewing angles and bright colors.
• The Galaxy Note 2’s display is a 5.5 inch Super AMOLED panel.

Galaxy Note 3
• The Galaxy Note 2’s display has a resolution of 720 x 1,280 resolution and a pixel density of 267 pixels per inch.
• The viewing angles on the Galaxy Note 2’s display are great though there are some glare and drops in vibrancy.
• The Super AMOLED panels ensure high color saturation making everything look very vibrant as well as colorful.
Verdict: The Galaxy Note 3 is the winner in this aspect. With its massive pixel density and high-definition screen, the Note 3’s display is an obvious upgrade from the Note 2.

Camera Galaxy Note 3 vs Galaxy Note 2

• Samsung equipped the Galaxy Note 3 with a 13 MP rear camera.
• The pictures are of good quality, even the low light shots.
• The camera app used in the Galaxy Note 3 are the same as what Samsung used in their Galaxy 4.
• The Galaxy Note 2 has a 8 MP rear camera.

• While the camera might be “last years” technology, it still offers great picture quality. The shots taken have a lot of detail and accurate color reproduction. However, the shots are kind of bad in low light.
• The camera app on the Note 2 had a lot of settings, scenes, and modes which you can choose from, but the Note 3 just has a few more extra ones.
Verdict: The 13 MP camera of the Galaxy Note 3 is better than the Note 2 with better quality shots and better low-light performance.

Battery

• The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 has a 3,200 mAh Li-ion battery.
• The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 has a 3,100 mAh Li-ion battery
• There is barely any difference in the battery size of the two devices.
Verdict: This is a tie; both the Galaxy Note 3 and the Galaxy Note 2 have similar batteries. Both should get you about a day’s use.

Hardware

• There are two different processing packages for the Samsung Galaxy Note 3.
• For LTE, the Galaxy Note 3 packs a quad-core Snapdragon 800 clocked at 2.3 GHz.
• For 3G, the Galaxy Note 3 packs an octa-core Exynos clocked at 1.9 GHz.
• Both versions of the Galaxy Note 3 have 3 BG of RAM.

• The Galaxy Note 3 has a microSD slot and you can increase your storage by up to 64 GB.
• The Galaxy Note 2 has an Exynos 4412 quad-core processor that clocks at 1.6 GHz.
• The Galaxy Note 2 has 2 GB of RAM.

• There are three different versions of the Galaxy Note 3 when it comes to storage options. You can get a device with 16, 32, 64 GB of storage.
• The Galaxy Note 2 also has microSD so storage can be expanded even more.
• Both the Galaxy Note 3 and the Galaxy Note 2 have the S Pen, but the Note 3’s S Pen has been slightly redesigned and is a bit easier to handle.
Verdict: While the Note 2 remains an impressive smartphone, the Galaxy Note 3 has really improved on its specs. There is a notable difference in speed between the two devices. In this case, the Note 3 has the upper hand.

Software

• Both the Galaxy Note 3 and the Galaxy Note 2 use TouchWiz.
• The Galaxy Note 3 has almost all the software features that Samsung gave the Galaxy S4. It also has a few new additions which include MyMagazine, Pen Window, and Air Command
• The Galaxy Note 3 runs Android 4.3
• The Galaxy Note 2 has standard S Pen features including Air View and retains some good features such as Smart Stay and Smart Alert but Note 3 really has more.
• The Galaxy Note 2 runs Android 4.1.2

Verdict

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 has more new useful features. While this may mean a bit of bloat, the Galaxy Note 3 still runs very smooth. In the end, the Note 3 is the winner in this area as well.
There’s no denying that the Galaxy Note 3 is a massive upgrade from the Galaxy Note 2. This is not just a spec upgrade, the Note 3 has a new look and a lot of new software features.
