Build
- The design of the handset is not very impressive. It simply lacks finesse.
- Physically the device feels flimsy and weak. The material is plastic; we cannot say the handset will be a durable one.
- There is a lot of bezel on top, bottom and on the side as well.
- It is a little chunky.
- The rim has a metallic look.
- Back has a leather effect.
- Beneath the screen there are three buttons for Home, Back and Menu functions.
- Power button is on the right edge.
- Volume button is on the left edge.
- Headphone jack is on the top while a micro USB port is on the bottom edge.
- Speakers are placed on the back near the lower right corner. The sound produced by the speakers is pretty good.
- The device supports dual SIMs.
- It is available in two colours of black and white.
Display

- The front holds a VGA camera.
- The camera gives blurry snapshots.
- The camera app is jerky and slow.

- It has no unique feature.
Processor
- The device has a MediaTek 1.2Ghz dual-core processor which is accompanied by 512 MB RAM.
- The processor is slow and unresponsive.
- It cannot even handle basic tasks like web browsing and screen scrolling.
- It will leave you hanging for a few seconds before each response.
Memory & Battery
- There is 4 GB of built in storage of which more than 2 GB is available to the user.
- The memory can be increased by using the expendable storage slot.
- The handset can support memory card up to 32 GB.
- The 1400mAh battery will not get you through the day, you might need an afternoon top.
Features
- Karbonn A5S runs Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system.
- There are not much pre-installed apps to begin with. Standard Android apps are present.
- The handset supports dual SIMs.
Conclusion
There is nothing nice about this handset. Other than the fact that the device is cheap we don’t see anything else that might be of interest. If you are into a device that offers next to nothing at a really low price you might like this. Alcatel OneTouch Idol Mini or Huawei Ascend Y300 much better options.
