Build

• The handset comes in three colours purple, red and black.
• The build quality feels sturdy.
• There are four touch buttons beneath the screen for Home, Menu, Search and Back functions.
• The back is rubberized which provides a nice grip, considering it is meant for typing.
• There is a touchpad beneath the screen and two buttons for call and end functions.
• The QWERTY keyboard is pretty nice, each key has a rounded shape. There is a slight click on pressing the keys.
• The backplate removes to reveal a slot for SIM and microSD card.

Display

• The screen is 1.5 inches tall and only 2.6 inches across the diagonal which are not a good fit for Android.
• Web browsing and other services are really frustrating to use.

Camera

• There is a 3.2-megapixel camera at the back with a mediocre flash.
• The camera gives very low-resolution stills.

Performance

There is a 650MHz processor which is very slow. It does not feel like a smartphone.

Memory & Battery

• There is just 150MB of internal memory, which is insufficient for everything.
• Although the handset comes with a 2GB microSD card, which might  passable for the targeted audience.
• The battery will get you through a day of full use.

Features

• You can use the camera flash as a torch trough a dedicated button on the keyboard.
• There is pre-installed WhatsApp, which can be called by pressing a key at the bottom row of the keyboard.

Conclusion

Alcatel has done a good job with One Touch 916 Smart, the main feature of the handset which is the keyboard, is pretty good. All touch handsets are available in the market with much better specifications, but if you want a device with a physical keyboard at a low price then this handset might be the one for you.
